just some dog chat
From the monthly archives:
It’s the holiday of eating the most scrumptious and mouth-watering foods of the season, so why shouldn’t your monster be able to celebrate too? Other than table scraps being high in fat content, there are still other reasons not to share your feast. Cooked turkey, duck, geese and other bird bones are hollow causing them to break and splinter easily. The results are sharp pieces that can choke, block or tear your dogs little intestines. A monster that has a bone or fragment lodged in their intestine may not even show symptoms for a couple of days. When they do occur they may include loss of appetite, depression, vomiting, or diarrhea. Sometimes the bone will pass by itself; other times it may need to be surgically removed. So make sure all leftovers are placed out of your monsters’ reach including skewers, toothpicks, string used to tie the turkey, plastic wrap, etc. Reward your little beast with appropriate puppy items…a new bone, a stuffed toy, a frosty paw, be creative!

This morning, while the monster was sleeping in, I happened upon this cute little frame pouch from Field of Roses. Made with imported japanese cotton, the pouch is fully lined, comes in two color options and is big enough to hold all the necessities…ipod, cosmetics, cell phone and pup treats!

The monster received a special gift stocking in the mail of Rachel Ray Nutrish pup treats and she is totally loving the Isaboo Grill Bites Bacony Burger and Beefy Burger flavors to the point of slurping the floor in hopes that a morsel could have fallen. Now, that is dedication to a treat. Each treat is made with simple, natural ingredients. No filler. No junk. Just good wholesome food. And, a portion of the proceeds from every bag of Rachel Ray Nutrish will go to charities and organizations that help animals in need. Tilda is a huge supporter of pups in need so upon her request, we have now made the full switch to Nutrish treats. We were not happy with our last selection so these came at the perfect time!

We all have our favorite painters and Tilda is no acception. The monster is truly in love with artist, Ben Baldwin of the grey blanket. Aided by thick brush strokes and a misty color palette, Baldwin turns simple subjects into whimsical, inquisitive portraits and amongst his favorite subjects is pups. One of Ben’s specialties is creating custom illustrative paintings based around your pup and it’s personality. We NEED a custom Tilda painting because she is totally crushing on him. Ben also has prints available in his shop for sale which make great holiday gifts!

Yesterday, I stopped into a new little pup boutique just off of Newbury Street called Pawsh. Greeting me as I walked in the door was the cutest little Boston Terrier named Balki with a bone hanging from his mouth. Tilda would totally love him and the first thing she would do is try to steal his bone, ’cause she’s fresh like that. Anyway, the boutique just opened a little over a month ago and they have a mixed collection of items from dog beds, collars, pet food, t-shirts and the greatest toy policy! You have got to hear this…Apparently, Balki is a toy killer, as is my little Matilda Monster. Balki decapitates his new toys within minutes, leaving an explosion of stuffing that covers the floor. Tilda and I refer to this as “snowing.” If your dog is like Balki + Matilda, Pawsh offers a “Destroyed Toy Return Program.” They will take back any plush toy bought at the store, that has since been gnawed to oblivion, and offer 10% off your next toy purchase. All you need to do is bring back the “remains” and your receipt. How cool is that? Tilda and I will be making regular stops to Pawsh when we visit Auntie Jenny in Boston!

Tilda and I just came across this great card from Shop Key Lime Design. It is a perfect depiction of the way we mock our pets around the holidays. Why do we do such things to our favorite little monsters who do nothing but love us and make us the center of their universe? Must have this card!
